Here’s a handful of academic achievements that it’d be easy to forget about, especially working in education. But I decided to turn them into a post so I can’t forget them. And I expect there will be more soon, so I’m calling this part 1.
#1 — Auspicious Beginning
I’m 2 months into my new teaching appointment & I don’t regret it. (Note from future Boaz: I ended up winning Top Ten Teacher of the Year in Fort Worth) I know the first few weeks send a lot of teachers home crying from exhaustion, but I haven’t come close to that.
#2 — No Overwhelm
I inherited 8 different syllabi. All of them are natural sciences, all half-a-decade old, and all are patchwork jobs stitched together from 6 previous instructors. None of the labs work. But it hasn’t overwhelmed me. I’m already modding the syllabi where needed. And making notes of what to purge over the summer.
#3 — Speedrunner Students
5 of my students have already passed a semester’s worth of content in my classes. One of them is going to finish a year’s worth of content before the end of October.
#4 — Class Rituals
I have 5 class periods, about 40 students in all, and all of them are well-behaved. I have rituals to open and close class, and I play LoFi hip hop in between. I rarely have to be stern, because the structure of the class itself provides enough discipline for 90% of the students.

#5 — Clutch Professional
My school was missing 2 of our 7 instructors last week. I substituted for both instructors simultaneously without issue.
#6 — Busting Delinquents
My classroom awareness is improving and I’m less afraid to deal out discipline. I busted a student who was bragging about how they got an A on a paper written by ChatGPT.
I walked over, yoinked the offending paper right out of their hand, told the class “Top 10 things to never say in a classroom: #7: AI wrote my paper” then texted my principle. The case was opened and closed by the end of the next period.
#7 — New Writing High Score
September was my best month as a Medium Partner. The payout isn’t going to pay my rent, but I’ve published in academic journals for free before, and gave away the copyright. It’s already a positive trend, and it’s just gotta keep trending upward.
#8 — New Certification Unlocked
I got certified as an editor through Paper Raven. You can check out my page on their directory here! I can do everything from edit an outline to prepare a book launch to building an author’s website (And I have experience doing all those things, thanks to my PhD training and developing The Orthodox Snake into an LLC).
Now I’m working on my marketing strategy and looking for quality clients.

These small wins are proof of a craftsman honing his tools. Whether I'm bringing order to a chaotic syllabus or busting lazy writing, I bring this same rigorous, orderly passion to every text I touch.
I have the certification and the stamina to help you turn your rough draft into a polished work of art. If you have a manuscript that needs this level of care—from structural development to line-by-line polish—let's make your book my next humble achievement. Let's find out if we're a good fit ⬇️
Comments are welcome. I read everything, but my charism is writing, not debate. So I respond selectively, only when conversation clearly serves truth and charity. If you don't receive a response, please don't take it personally. Time and energy are precious resources, and I steward them toward the essays themselves.
All comments go through moderation.
If you'd like to engage more substantively, consider writing your own response essay and contacting us through email or social media. I'd be honored to read it and potentially feature it as a guest essay.
